Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that an Essex County jury has convicted Raheem Cleveland, 33, of Newark of murder, attempted murder and weapons offenses.
Following a three-day trial before the Honorable Joseph C. Cassini, III, the jury deliberated a day and half before reaching a verdict finding Cleveland guilty on all charges.
“We believe justice was served,’’ said Assistant Prosecutor Romesh Sukhdeo, who tried the case.
Just after midnight on July 5, 2011 Cleveland shot Marquise Robinson, 28, and Amina Nobles, 27, both of Newark at point blank range as they stood on the front steps of Robinson’s home in the 300 block of Osborne Terrace in Newark. Robinson died. Nobles survived. The murder is believed to be gang related.
Cleveland has five prior adult felony convictions and 13 adult arrests. Sentencing is scheduled for June 10.
