Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Acting Orange Police Director Hakim Sims announced that two individuals have been charged with the murder of Malcolm Bagley, a 19-year-old Orange resident who was attending Dean College in Massachusetts.
“Malcolm Bagley was a young man with a bright future until he was violently and senselessly killed on Memorial Day weekend,’’ said Acting Prosecutor Murray. “Through a lot of great police work, we have charged Mark Lovett and Shawn Watford with Malcolm’s murder.’’
Lovett, 20, of Orange is in custody. Watford, 24, of East Orange remains at-large. Both are charged with murder. Bail for both has been set at $1 million by the Honorable Peter J. Vazquez, J.S.C. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Watford.
Bagley, a stand out football player in Orange, was shot and killed on May 27, 2012 on Taylor Street in Orange. The preliminary investigation indicates Bagley was an innocent bystander.
Acting Orange Police Director Sims said, “I’m very pleased with the efforts of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and all officers assigned to the Homicide Task Force. It’s initiatives like this that assure me we are moving in the right direction toward fighting crime and solving cases. This will hopefully bring closure to the Bagley family and help them move forward.”
