Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced today that Chrissy Treamount, 30, and Ronald Piacenza, 40, both of Medford plead guilty to 3rd degree insurance fraud today before the Honorably Joseph Cassini, 3rd, Judge of the Superior Court.
Assistant Prosecutor Michael Morris said the incident occurred on July 27, 2008 at 1010 18th Avenue in Newark. The defendants decided to burn their leased car because of a substantial mileage penalty owed. They filed a fraudulent claim with GEICO Insurance Company.
Acting Prosecutor Laurino lauded Assistant Prosecutor Morris and Investigator Lance Nero for their outstanding work on this case.
The defendants are scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 18, 2011 before Judge Cassini.
