Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, Newark Police Fugitive Apprehension Team and FBI Fugitive Task Force arrested Farad Green, 33, of Newark, for the murder of Latisha Brown.
Brown, 26, of East Orange was shot late on July 20, and pronounced dead shortly after midnight on July 21. The fatal shooting occurred at 199 Peshine Avenue, Newark.
Acting Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio praised the work of the city’s Fugitive Apprehension Team (FAT) and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force along with their partners on the state and federal levels for the quick apprehension of the suspect wanted in the murder of Latisha Brown.
“Shortly after the murder of Ms. Brown, F.A.T. and the Homicide Task Force with help from several state and federal agencies, including the US Marshals and the FBI, launched an investigation near the area where the murder took place,’’ said Director DeMaio.
“The investigation was further assisted by information police received anonymously. Working every lead, police finally caught a break when they learned the name of the suspect wanted for this horrific crime. He was tracked down and captured last night. Because of the hard work and dedication of the men and woman of every agency involved in this investigation, we were able to apprehend the suspect responsible for the death of this young woman. I would like to thank each and every one of these officers for their commitment to seeing this crime solved,” Director DeMaio added.
The Task Force obtained arrest warrants for Green on July 22, and detectives worked throughout the weekend to locate Green. Ultimately, Green was located in Iselin, N.J. on Tuesday night. He was arrested without incident.
Green is charged with first degree murder and weapons offenses. Bail was set at $2 million. He is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility. The arraignment date has not been set yet.
These charges are mere accusations. All defendants are presumed to be innocent until they are proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
