Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today Cesar Clausett-Soto, 29, of Newark was arrested at approximately 8 a.m. this morning for the murder of Johnny Nazario, 23, of Kearny. Nazario was fatally shot in the early morning hours of May 28, on Highland Avenue in Newark.
Newark Police and investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Squad arrested Clausett-Soto without incident on Mt. Prospect Avenue in Newark at a private residence.
He is charged with murder and weapons charges. Bail was set at $1 million by the Honorable Joseph Cassini, III, Judge of the Superior Court.
Warrants were issued for Clausett-Soto last week. The investigation is active and ongoing.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until they plead guilty or found guilty beyond a reasonable in a court of law.
