Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino today announced the arrest of Terique Ganes, 32, of Irvington and Vetosa Smith, 31, Newark for the armed robbery of an attendant at the Gulf gas station located at 1444 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union at approximately 1:38 p.m. today.
The suspects used a red Honda Accord. They pulled into the case station and the male asked the attendant to check the oil. Ganes allegedly grabbed the attended while armed and demanded cash. Money was allegedly taken from the attendant.
After receiving an alert via the radio regarding the robbery, members of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office VIPER Unit located the suspect on Springfield Avenue in Newark and followed him. The vehicle was stopped at Avon Avenue and 14th Street in Newark and both suspects were placed under arrest without incident. A positive identification was made of the suspect by the gas station employee.
The case is still being investigated. Essex County Officers Abner Osorio and Dennis Kihlberg along with Newark police officers made the arrest. VIPER Det. Reggie Holloway is the primary case officer.
These are mere accusations. All defendants are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
