Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that an Essex County jury convicted Kenneth Glasco, 47, of Irvington of 3rd degree leaving the of accident and 3rd degree endangering an injured victim.
On Aug. 3, 2011 at approximately 1 a.m. Glasco, who was driving his car, struck then 50-year-old Carl Russell who was traveling on a bicycle. Glasco left the scene leaving the injured man bleeding and in the gutter. Unbeknown to Glasco his license plate fell off during the collision. Irvington Police immediately went to Glasco’s home and arrested him.
Following a trial before the Honorable Judge Michael L. Ravin, J.S.C., the jury deliberated for approximately three hours before convicting Glasco. He was acquitted of the more serious charge of aggravated assault.
“This was truly a tragic case. The defendant left Mr. Russell in the gutter bleeding and unconscious. He suffered severe traumatic brain injuries. To this day he remains in a rehabilitation facility,’’ said Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Hanley, who tried the case along with Assistant Prosecutor Michele Miller.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 28 before Judge Ravin. Glasco has at least ten prior convictions. Because of his prior convictions, the state will seek an extended prison sentence. Consequently, Glasco faces up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
