Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Newark Police Department are investigating the fatal shooting of a two-year-old boy. The child has been identified at Mikhy Robinson.
Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio said, “I am saddened by this tragic and senseless loss of life and extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the infant. The investigation into this incident is in the very early stages and police have yet to clarify all of the details surrounding the case at this time. Nevertheless, I am confident that the hard working investigators assigned to the Essex County Homicide Task Force will conduct a thorough investigation in the pursuit of justice and closure for the family.”
The boy sustained fatal gun shot injuries at approximately 9:48 am at his home located at 57 St. James Place in Newark. He was taken to Beth Israel Hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:14 a.m.
