Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that an Essex County Grand Jury indicted Kisha Curtis, 27, of Albany, N.Y. on one count of animal cruelty. On March 16, the dog named “Patrick” was found in a plastic bag at the bottom of the garage chute of a Newark apartment building.
Today, an Essex County grand jury handed up an indictment charging Curtis, the owner of the dog, with one count of fourth degree cruelty to an animal. If found guilty of the charges, Curtis faces up to 18 months in jail.
Curtis is scheduled to be arraigned before the Honorable Judge Joseph Cassini, 3rd, in December.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
