Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today an Essex County jury has convicted Alameen Adams, 21, of Newark of murdering Ian Morris, 34, of East Orange. The murder occurred in East Orange.
On March 24, 2010 Morris was shot in the head and robbed of marijuana in the stairwell of his South Harrison apartment. After a four day trial before the Honorable Jerome St. John, the jury deliberated for a day and a half before convicting Adams on all counts. The jury found Adams guilty of murder, felony murder and two weapons offenses.
Adams faces life in prison when he is sentenced on July 22.
Assistant Prosecutor Erica Liu, who tried the case, said, “We’re very satisfied with the jury’s verdict. There has been a lot of gun violence in Essex County recently. This verdict demonstrates that the citizens of Essex County will not stand for it.’’
