Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and East Orange Police Chief William Robinson announced today the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the East Orange Police are investigating the homicide of Lisa Lango, 45, of East Orange.
Ms. Lango was discovered at her home at approximately 8 a.m. in the 200 block of Grove Street in East Orange. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is pending autopsy. The preliminary investigation indicates it is a domestic related homicide.
Later in the day Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force detectives encountered William Simmons, 50, of East Orange and Barnegat, in a car on South Munn Avenue in Newark.
Late this afternoon Simmons was charged with the murder of Ms. Lango. In addition to being arrested for Ms. Lango’s murder, Simmons was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. Bail was set at $400,000 cash only by the Honorable Peter J. Vazquez, J.S.C.
The suspect has been transported to University Hospital in Newark. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
