Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino today announced that Maria Pomavilla, 19, of Newark died from injuries she sustained after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.
On Saturday, April 17, 2010 Ms. Pomarilla, who lived in the Ironbound section of Newark, was hit by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Warwick and Adams Street in Newark. She was rushed to University Hospital and died on April 20, 2010. The victim leaves behind an infant daughter.
The vehicle that struck Ms. Pomarilla fled the scene. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Police Department are asking for assistance from the public in identifying the driver and the vehicle. Anyone with information is urged to call 1-877-TIPS-4-EC or 1-877-847-7432. All calls will be kept confidential.
The Essex County Crimestoppers program, Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura, has offered up to $5,000 for information that results in the arrest and conviction of the driver.
