Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today Eusebio Jacome, a 51 year-old Honduran living in Newark, was arrested for the murder of Miradaliza DeJesus Jimenez, 34, of also of Newark.
Jacome has also been charged with two weapons offenses for allegedly unlawfully using a weapon (a hammer) to carry out the murder. He is also charged with desecrating the victim’s body.
Jacome is being held on $1 million bail at the Essex County Correctional Facility. Bail was set by the Honorable Cathy L. Wasserman, Judge of the Superior Court.
Yesterday, just before 12 noon, the Newark Police Department received information that there was a dead body at 55 Manor Drive in the West Ward section of Newark. Police responded to the scene. They knocked on the door but were refused entry into the apartment. Because of the emergent nature of the situation, the officers forced their way into the apartment where they discovered what appeared to be the dismembered body of Ms. Jimenez.
On Friday, Ms. Jimenez was reported missing by her family.
The preliminary investigation indicates the cause of death is blunt force trauma but the official cause of death will be determined following the autopsy.
These charges are mere accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until he either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law.
Jacome is expected to make his first court appearance sometime next week.
The investigation is active and ongoing. No other information is available at this time.
