Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that an Essex County Grand Jury has indicted Alberto Nunez, 20, of West Orange for first degree aggravated manslaughter, second degree vehicular homicide, second degree aggravated assault, and fourth degree aggravated assault by automobile in the death of 18-year-old Adreana B. Nelson of West Orange.
At approximately 12:57 a.m. on September 18, 2010, Nunez was driving a 1995 Acura Integra on Ridge Road in Cedar Grove when the car struck a utility pole. Nelson, a passenger in the back seat, was ejected from the rear window suffering severe head and bodily injuries. The teen was taken to the trauma center at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson where she later died. Nunez and front seat passenger, Odane M. Neale, 21, also of West Orange were transported to Mountainside Hospital for treatment.
Nunez is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges in the indictment on May 29 before the Honorable Peter J. Vazquez, J.S.C.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty in a court of law.
