Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio announced today that David Seeley, 50, of Washington Township (Hunterdon County), N.J. was struck and killed today while working outside of Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark.
At approximately 10:27 a.m. a 70-year-old Newark man struck Seeley and two other men, who were working in the vicinity of 111 Central Avenue near the entrance of the hospital. The other victims were 41 and 52 years old. They were transported to University Hospital in critical condition but have been updated to guarded condition.
The driver, whose name is not being released at this time, was also hospitalized with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. Charges have not been filed against the driver at this time.
The investigation is active and ongoing. The preliminary investigation indicates the three men were working on a contracting job when the driver lost control of his vehicle and struck them. Seeley was pronounced dead at Saint Michael’s Medical Center.
