In an effort to protect the woman, the officer fired, striking the suspect. The 32-year-old Newark woman hit by the suspect is hospitalized in stable condition at University Hospital. Her name is not being released because she is a crime victim.
The investigation is active and ongoing. No other details are available at this time.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty in a court of law.
