Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II announced today that Ibn Hill, 22, and Tyquan Zigler, 27, both of Newark, have been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting ofJerry Works Jr. in 2020. At the time of his death, Works was 50 and lived in Newark.
On September 14, 2020, police responded to a report of a shooting on the 100 block of Brenner Street in Newark. Officers located Works in a common hallway of a building suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:18 p.m.
After an investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force, Hill was charged with Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose. Zigler has been charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder. Both suspects are in custody.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
