At 1:40 A.M. today, Anthony Davis, 19 was shot at 9-15 Fabyan Place. He succumb to his injuries at 3:48 A.M. at University Hospital.
Also today, at 2:30 A.M., Newark Police responded to a shots-fired report at 221-223 Eastern Parkway. When the Police arrived, they found Frederick Smith, 24, of Newark shot multiple times. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force is investigating these incidents. The investigations are ongoing and it is not known at this juncture if the incidents are related. However, both victims appear to have been targeted, said Essex County Prosecutor’s Chief of Detectives Anthony Ambrose.
“With assistance of Law Enforcement agencies on the Federal, State, and local level,we will leave no stone unturned as we search for the people responsible for these shooting”, said Newark Police Director Samuel Demaio.
The Essex County CrimeStoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the actors in these incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call the Essex County Prosecutor’s Tip HotLine at 1-877-847-7432 and the Newark Police Tips Line at 1-877-695-8477.
