Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino today announced that an Essex County Grand Jury has returned a four-count indictment today charging three men with the murder of Edgardo Ruiz, 42, of Newark.
Rafael M Velez, 26, of Newark, Anthony Ruiz, 31, of Newark and Adrian Torres, 35, Elizabeth were all charged with the murder of Edgardo Ruiz. All three have also been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and illegal possession of a handgun.
On April 20, 2010 Newark police responded to a report of shots fired. When they arrived in the 500 block of North 11th Street they discovered Ruiz lying in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to University Hospital were he was pronounced dead.
The charges are mere accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
