Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced today that Jerome J. Davis, 17, of Newark plead guilty to first degree aggravated sexual assault of a Newark woman before the Honorable Peter Vazquez, P.J.S.C.
Davis was prosecuted as an adult.
Assistant Prosecutor Walter Dirkin said the incident occurred on March 10, 2009. Davis, who was 16 years old at the time of the crime, entered the woman’s apartment through a damaged window, punched her in the face and sexually assaulted her.
Davis’ shoes, his Weequahic High School identification, and a set of car keys were left at the crime scene.
Assistant Prosecutor Dirkin, who is director of the Sex Crimes Unit, commended Newark Police Det. Doris Soto-Rodriguez for the manner in which she handled the case.
Davis is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Vazquez on June 25.
