Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that a man opened fire on his girlfriend in East Orange, killing her in the apartment they shared, and then turned the gun on himself committing suicide.
Last night East Orange Police responded to 377 North Grove Street on a report of a shooting. When they arrived at the apartment they found Latoshia Murray, 23, of East Orange suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:48 p.m. yesterday.
The shooter, Alex Fuller, 29, of also of East Orange had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Present in the apartment were the couple’s two sons, ages 3 and 5 years old. Also present was the sister of the victim and her boyfriend; their newborn; and the victim’s grandmother. No one else was injured.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the shooting. No charges have been filed at this time.
