Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino is seeking assistance from the public to help solve a fatal hit and run.
At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 22, Andre Bryant, 21, of Newark was struck and killed at Nye and Bergen Avenues. Bryant, whose family is originally from Brooklyn, was living and working in Newark as a laborer rehabilitating homes and providing security for vacant properties.
He was crossing Bergen Avenue when a dark colored vehicle, traveling southbound at a high rate of speed, struck him, causing Bryant to sustain fatal injuries. Bryant was rushed to University Hospital in Newark where he was pronounced dead at 1:05 a.m.
