Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced today that a 17-year-old Nutley youth was charged with possession of child pornography today, a felony.
The juvenile, whose name is not being released because of his age, was charged following an investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crime Unit.
Investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office newly created Cyber Crimes Unit followed up on a tip from the New Jersey State Police. The investigation revealed that the juvenile was in possession of child pornography. The computer will be analyzed further to determine whether the juvenile was also distributing child pornography. The juvenile was processed and released to his parents.
“I am delighted with the performance of the newly created Cyber Crimes Unit and the partnership with the FBI and the State Police. This is a great start,’’ said Acting Prosecutor Laurino.
These are mere accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
