Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced that Northern State prison inmate Raymond Jenkins, 42, of Plainfield plead guilty today to possessing a cell phone in state prison.
According to Assistant Prosecutor Brandon Minde, Jenkins convinced a dental hygienist, who was employed as a contract service provider, to smuggle a cell phone into the prison for him.
On Nov. 18, 2009 the dental hygienist, Bobbi Mackey, 40, of Maplewood pleaded guilty to providing Jenkins with a cell phone.
Jenkins was serving a ten-year prison sentence for a narcotics offense at the time. He faces an additional three years in prison when he is sentenced by Superior Court Judge Harold Fullilove on June 4th.
“Smuggling cell phones into state prison will not be tolerated. It will result in longer prison terms,’’ said Minde.
