Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that an Essex County Grand Jury has indicted Roberto Ortiz, 32, of Newark for first degree murder and fourth degree hindering prosecution charges in the death of Sylvia Paucer, 37, of Newark.
On November 9, 2011, Paucer was found unresponsive in her car on the 100th block of Stone Street, where she lived. Her teenage son and brother discovered her after searching for her when she didn’t return home from night classes. Paucer was taken to University Hospital where she was later pronounced dead at 10:45 p.m.
Paucer and Ortiz had been co-workers. Ortiz is scheduled to be arraigned on charges in the indictment on July 3, before the Honorable Peter J. Vazquez, J.S.C.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty in a court of law.
