Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Cedar Grove Police Chief Richard Vanderstreet announced today that Ania Marcinkiewicz, 35, of Cedar Grove was arrested on Tuesday and charged with one count of 2nd degree aggravated assault and two counts of 2nd degree endangering the welfare of a child.
It is alleged that Marcinkiewicz assaulted her eight-week-old baby girl, resulting in a fractured skull and other injuries. It is further alleged that the mother failed to obtained medical attention for the baby. The assault allegedly occurred between March 22 and March 23 at the family home in Cedar Grove.
The mother was arrested yesterday. She is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility. Bail was set at $300,000 with the condition that the defendant surrenders her passport and has no contact with the victim who is currently in the care of the Division of Youth and Family Services.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No other information in available at this time.
