Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio are asking for help from the public in apprehending the two suspects wanted for the murder of Miguel A. Torres, 37, of Newark.
Mr. Torres, the owner of the JNC Mini Mart, located at 346 14th Avenue in Newark, was shot at approximately 6:14 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012. He was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:41 p.m.
Two men are wanted in connection with the murder. In surveillance video taken from the Mini Mart, the shooter’s face is covered but he is wearing an Adidas jacket. Another man, who is acting as a look out, is wearing a North Face jacket. He can be clearly seen in the video.
The Homicide investigation is being conducted by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force and the Newark Police Department. The investigation is active and investigators are currently viewing surveillance footage from around the location and other leads at this time.
