Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that Jerrod Little, 29, of Newark has been sentenced to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison by the Honorable Michael L. Ravin for attacking three girls in East Orange.
On March 20, 2009 Little attempted to kidnap an 11-year-old and a 14-year-old in East Orange. He successfully abducted an 18-year-old and attempted to sexually assault her as he held a box cutter to her.
On July 20, 2011 Little pleaded guilty to luring of an 11-year-old; kidnapping and aggravated assault of the 14-year-old; and kidnapping and attempted aggravated sexual assault of the 18-year-old along with possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Today, Judge Ravin sentenced Little to 20 years in prison. Little must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
First Assistant Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino, who handled the case, said, “This was a dangerous man who struck fear in the East Orange community because he went after girls in broad daylight. The people of East Orange can rest easy today knowing he’ll spend the next 20 years in state prison.’’
The case was solved quickly because the State Police DNA laboratory obtained samples from the victim and linked Little to the crime. Little had previously been convicted of drug and receiving stolen property offenses.
