Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino today announced the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has issued a warrant for the arrest of Oquan Blake, 24, of Newark.
Blake is wanted for the murder and sexual assault of Dalaysia Rhymer, a 7-month-old baby girl. She is the daughter of a woman Blake dated.
The mother left the child in Blake’s care. When she returned home the baby was unresponsive. She called 911 and the child was rushed to University Hospital on Saturday, June 26, 2010 and put on life support. The baby died on Monday, June 28, 2010.
An autopsy performed on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 determined it was a homicide. When the child arrived at the hospital she had a fractured skull, a ruptured spleen, broken ribs, bruising to the spine and a lacerated liver. She had also been sexually assaulted.
An arrest warrant has been signed by the Honorable Joseph Cassini, 3rd,JSC. Bail has been set at $2 million when Blake is apprehended.
These are mere accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
