Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task has obtained a warrant for the arrest of Lawrence A. Williams, 19, of Newark.
Williams is charged with the murder of David T. Collier, 38, of Newark. Collier was fatally stabbed by Williams last night at the family home located at 25 Treacy Avenue, Newark. The preliminary investigation indicates Williams stabbed Collier to death after Williams and Collier got into an argument.
Collier was transported to University Hospital where pronounced dead at approximately 10:45 p.m. After the stabbing Williams fled the scene. He remains at large. He is presumed to be armed and dangerous. In addition to being charged with murder he is also charged with two weapons offenses. Bail was set by the Honorable Peter Vazquez at $500,000.
