Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that Alameen Adams, 21, of Newark was sentenced to 35 years in state prison for the March 24, 2010 murder of Ian Morris, 34, of East Orange.
Morris was shot in the head and killed in the stairwell of his South Harrison Street apartment during a botched robbery. In June Adams was convicted of murder, felony murder, robbery and two weapons charges.
Today, the Honorable Jerome St. John, Judge of the Superior Court, sentenced Adams to a total of 35 years in state prison. Adams must serve 30 years before he will be eligible for parole.
“This sentence served the interest of justice and should bring some closure for the Morris family,’’ said Assistant Prosecutor Erica Liu, who tried the case.
