Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino today announced that an Essex County Grand Jury indicted Al White for the murder of Byron Lockett, 42, of Newark.
On Oct. 9, 2009, Lockett was shot multiple times outside Marlo’s Restaurant and Bar on Lyons Avenue in Irvington.
An altercation occurred in front of the bar, according to Assistant Prosecutor William Neafsey. White, 24, of Newark allegedly shot Lockett in the face. White was also indicted on aggravated assault charges for shooting Latiff McCleod. McCleod’s injuries were not fatal. The Grand Jury also indicted White on weapons charges.
White is currently being held in the Essex County Correctional Facility. He is scheduled to be arraigned on June 29.
These are mere accusations. All defendants are presumed to be innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
