Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that Darnell Williams, 19, of Newark was indicted for the Nov. 12, 2011 murder and robbery of Kenneth Kwiatkowsky, 64, also of Newark.
Kwiatkowsky was killed during a robbery on Chapel Street in the East Ward. In addition to murder, the eight-count indictment charges Williams with two counts of aggravated assault, robbery, terroristic threats, felony murder and weapons offenses.
In addition to Kwiatkowsky, it is alleged Williams threatened a woman and assaulted a man on that Saturday night. All three of the victims were in an apartment when Williams entered the apartment and attempted to rob them.
Kwiatkowsky was shot. Two days later he died from his injuries on Nov. 14, 2011. Bail was set at $500,000. He is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty in a court of law.
