Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino today announced the arrest of Ike Greaves, 21, of Newark in the fatal shooting of 50-year-old Daniel Lewis also of Newark. Officers arrested Greaves without incident at 6:30 a.m. at 58 Fabian Place.
A grocery store clerk, Lewis was fatally shot on Dec. 12, 2009 during a robbery at D&J Variety, located at 404 Hawthorne Avenue in Newark.
Prosecutor Laurino credited the Newark Homicide Squad and Essex County Prosecutor Det. Robert Prachar and Det. Dante Pasquale with making the arrest.
Greaves is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility on $500,000 bail.
These criminal charges are mere accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
