Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and local police agencies in the county will be participating in a four-state “Secure the Cities’’ drill in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the New Jersey State Police.
The exercise started today and will end on Saturday, April 9. As part of the exercise, there will be an increased law enforcement presence throughout the county. In addition, roadside checkpoints will be set up on Saturday in Belleville and Nutley to test law enforcement readiness in case of a true emergency.
Belleville Chief Joseph Rotonda and Nutley Police Chief John Holland Rotonda have agreed to participate in the drill along with Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura. This is a drill.
