Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that an Essex County Grand Jury returned a 38-count indictment charging Venette Ovilde aka Krisla Rezireksyon and Myriam Janvier with the murder of 8-year-old Christiana Glenn.
In addition to murder, Rezireksyon, who is the mother of the child, and Janvier, a friend who shared responsibility for the care of Christiana and her two younger siblings, were both charged with the abuse and neglect of Rezirekyson’s two other children, now ages 7 and 8.
The two women are also charged with conspiracy, endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated assault, criminal restraint and hindering prosecution.
The indictment charges that between Aug. 1, 2010 and May 22, 2011 the mother and Janvier starved the little girl and then between May 1, 2011 and May 22, 2011 they also withheld medical treatment after her leg was broken.
The other children were also starved and sustained fractures that went untreated, the indictment alleges. One had a fractured finger. The other had a fractured arm and foot.
In addition the indictment alleges all three children were forced to kneel on salt with heavy objects on their heads for hours at a time.
The indictment also charges that the two women restrained Christiana Glenn by tying her to the radiator. It further alleges that they tied the other children to the radiator.
The two women are also charged with leaving the children without proper adult supervision and not taking the children to school or providing proper at-home schooling. All the crimes occurred in Irvington, where the family was living at the time.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty in a court of law.
