Alexander B. Albu
First Assistant Prosecutor
Alexander B. Albu is the First Assistant Prosecutor at the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. He is a lifelong Essex County resident and 14-year veteran of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. He has dedicated his career to seeking justice and protecting the rights of Essex County residents. Prior to becoming First Assistant Prosecutor, he served in various units throughout the office. Most recently, he was the Deputy Chief Assistant Prosecutor in charge of the Professional Standards Bureau, which is responsible for all investigations and prosecutions regarding criminal misconduct by police officers in Essex County.
During his tenure in that role, he oversaw the implementation of various initiatives aimed at increasing police accountability. In addition, he tried numerous cases, including State v. Jovanny Crespo, which resulted in the conviction of a Newark police officer for aggravated manslaughter and other related charges stemming from an on-duty police shooting. He has also tried many other types of homicides and violent crimes, tirelessly seeking justice for victims and their surviving family members. He is a graduate of Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey.
