Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that an Essex County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Omar Solomon, 24, of Elizabeth with the July 12, 2010 murder of Leon Truesdale.
Truesdale, 30, of Newark was shot multiple times around 4:45 am in the 100 block of Newton Street in Newark. Newark Police responded to the scene on a report of shots fired in the hallway, but when they arrived, found only a pool of blood. Officers searched the area and discovered Truesdale’s body about a block away on Bruce Street, in the parking lot of New Community Gardens apartment complex. Truesdale was pronounced dead at the scene.
In addition to murder, Solomon was charged with two weapons offenses. If convicted of the charges, Solomon faces life in prison.
These charges are accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless or until he either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law.
