Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that an indictment was returned by an Essex County Grand Jury charging defendant Marc Jackson, 27, of East Orange with the third degree crime of Creating a Risk of Widespread Injury or Damage. These charges stem from an alleged incident which occurred in East Orange in November of 2012.
On November 3, 2012 the defendant, who is employed by the City of East Orange as a firefighter, was arrested by the East Orange Police Department for selling gasoline from the back of a pickup truck. It is alleged that the defendant had approximately 290 gallons of gasoline in containers in the truck. The alleged offense took place in the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy.
If convicted on these charges, the defendant faces up to 5 years in prison.
These charges are accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless or until he either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law.
