The death of a 5-year-old is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Police Department.
Police and emergency medical personnel responded to 5 Esther Street in Newark after receiving a 911 call last night. The child, identified as Charlize Young, 5, was transported by emergency medical personnel to University Hospital late last night. She was pronounced dead at approximately 11:30 p.m.
After a postmortem autopsy today the death was ruled a homicide. The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made.
