Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Arson Squad arrested John M. McLachlan, 47, of Brick Township for setting a truck on fire in Newark.
McLachlan is charged with second degree aggravated arson, third degree burglary and third degree criminal mischief for torching a Ford F-250 pickup truck in the parking lot of his former employer in the early morning hours of April 25. No one was injured and no other property was damaged, according to Assistant Prosecutor Jeffrey R. Cartwright, Director of the Essex County Arson Task Force.
McLachlan was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility. Bail was set at $150,000 by the Honorable Michael A. Petrolle, J.S.C.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
