Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced today that Karen Marie Sosa, 44, of Belleville was sentenced to seven years in state prison for stealing $545,000 from Lynnes Nissan, where she worked in the accounting department.
Appearing before the Honorable Ronald Wigler, Judge of the Superior Court, Sosa plead guilty to one count of theft by unlawful taking. Throughout 2007 and 2008 she stole $545,000 from her employer.
Sosa was the accounts payable clerk for Lynnes Nissan in Bloomfield when it was determined that money was being stolen from the company and that the theft was carried out by an employee. It was determined she was not depositing all the cash she received from the parts and service department into the company bank account.
Assistant Prosecutor Robert Grady, who handled the case for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, said, “The seven-year sentence is entirely appropriate under the circumstances.’’
