Donna Cameron, a supervising assistant prosecutor in the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, recently attended the “Conference on Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence and Fighting for Change” in Chicago, where she participated in workshops on best practices for contending with sexual assault
“I prosecute juveniles charged with sexual assault, which must be handled with great care,” said Cameron, who works in ECPO’s Juvenile Unit. “It’s essential that the voices of crime victims are heard, yet we have an obligation to rehabilitate youth offenders whenever possible.”
Cameron was one of 10 prosecutors from across the nation chosen for a Rondini Scholarship, which funded her attendance at the conference. She was awarded the scholarship based on her “exceptional commitment to enhancing her skills to respond competently and compassionately to sexual assault victims.”
“I learned a great deal at the conference, and took the “start by believing pledge, which ensures that victims of sexual assault are treated with compassion and respect,” said Cameron. “I also was honored to meet Mike Rondini – the father of Megan Rondini – and personally thank him for the scholarship.” — Robert Florida
