Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced today that Reginald Anthony, 28, of East Orange has been arrested on a complaint charging him with felony murder, murder, robbery, conspiracy and weapons offenses for the murder of Robert Nevius, 91, of Essex Fells.
Anthony, who was hired as a chauffeur to drive Mr. Nevius and his wife, robbed and caused the murder of Mr. Nevius after driving Mrs. Nevius to New York City. The cause of death was blunt force trauma and strangulation, according to the autopsy report.
Prosecutor Laurino commends members of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Squad and the Essex Fells Police Department for their diligent efforts that resulted in this arrest.
The investigation is continuing.
Bail has been set at $1 million by the Honorable Michael Petrolle, JSC.
If found guilty of these charges, the defendant faces 30 years to life in New Jersey State prison.
Not withstanding the charges, every defendant is presumed innocent unless he pleads guilty or is found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
