Newark, N.J.- Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II announced today that a Newark woman has been convicted of attempting to kill two siblings during an armed robbery in 2025.
On October 29, 2026, following two hours of deliberations, a jury found Tia Roulhac, 43, of Newark, guilty of two counts of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree robbery, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, third-degree possession of a firearm weapon without a serial number (ghost gun), fourth-degree possession of hollow nose bullets, and fourth-degree possession of a large-capacity magazine.
Roulhac was convicted of shooting Comfort Kollie, 41, and her brother, Moses Kromah, 39, both of Newark.
The case was tried by Assistant Prosecutor Cara Brady and Assistant Prosecutor Jenna Ventola before the Honorable Naazneen Khan, J.S.C.
The prosecution proved that at approximately 10:08 a.m. on February 19, 2025, Kollie and Kromah were traveling in Kollie’s Toyota RAV4 near the intersection of South 17th Street and 19th Avenue in Newark. Roulhac, who was driving a Ford F150 pickup truck, cut off their vehicle and approached the driver’s side while pointing a handgun at the siblings.
The defendant demanded Kromah’s jacket. After he complied and handed it over, Roulhac fired two shots at the siblings. One bullet struck Kromah in the neck, while the other struck his sister in the chest.
The defendant fled the scene but later returned to the 400 block of South 17th Street, where she accidentally shot herself in the groin with the same handgun.
The victims and the defendant were transported to University Hospital for treatment.
The handgun was recovered under the porch of a home on the 400 block of South 17th Street.
Following the verdict, Assistant Prosecutor Brady stated, “This verdict brings a dangerous offender to justice and sends a clear message that those who commit violent crimes will be held fully accountable.”
Assistant Prosecutor Ventola added, “Justice was done in this case. We thank the jury for its careful deliberation and the investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Police Division who built this case. We thank the victims for their courage and hope it brings them some measure of peace.”
Roulhac is scheduled for sentencing on January 15, 2027. She faces a sentence of up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison for each first-degree offense.
