Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Irvington Police Director Joseph Santiago announced today that James Ryan, superintendent of Streets and Sewers of the Township of Irvington, has been arrested and charged with corruption for using municipal property in his personal business.
Ryan, 46, of Washington is accused of using two heavy duty construction vehicles owned by the Township for his personal business, Amber Sewer Cleaning. It is alleged that on Nov. 11, 2010, Veteran’s Day, which is a paid municipal holiday, Ryan did a sewer replacement job at a Union Place home.
The investigation was sparked by an anonymous complaint. Ryan was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear on April 25, at the Essex County Veterans Courthouse, 50 West Market Street, Central Judicial Processing, 5th Floor.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty in a court of law.
