Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino today announced that the 17-year-old East Orange juvenile, who opened fire at a carnival in Bloomfield on Friday, injuring another teenager, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two weapons offenses and resisting arrest.
The 17-year-old, who was charged today, was shot in the torso by a Bloomfield police officer during the incident at the carnival. He was subsequently taken to University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. His name is not being released because he is a minor.
The victim, another 17-year-old from East Orange, was shot in the left elbow at the carnival. He was treated and released from the Clara Mass Hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
The charges are mere accusations. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
