]]>The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Police Department are seeking assistance from the public in identifying a man believed to have been involved in two home invasions during which three women were sexually assaulted.
During the month of February 2013, the suspect entered two separate homes in Newark brandishing a knife. In the first incident he sexually assaulted two female occupants. A couple of days later he committed the same offense against one female occupant. Both sexual assaults took place in the City of Newark.

]]>Acting Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Task Force and Newark Police Department are investigating an early morning homicide in Newark’s South Ward. Abdullah Parrish, 26 of Newark was fatally shot in the area of 661 Frelinghuysen Avenue at approxmiately 1 am this morning. When the Police arrived they found Mr. Parrish suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation is being conducted by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force including the Newark Police Department. “There is no apparent motive at this time but it appears that Mr. Parrish was targeted by the shooter”, said Anthony Ambrose, Chief of Detectives.

]]>Today, at 4:45P.M. An off duty Newark officer shot a suspect who tried to rob him at gunpoint on Poe Avenue, in the City of Newark. The suspect fled and was found at East Orange General Hospital with a bullet wound to the chest. He is listed in critical condition.

]]>Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced that his office, along with the Newark Police Department are investigating the homicide of Barron M. Weir, age 27 of South Orange, NJ on September 21, 2010. Newark police responded to the area of 40 Salem Street in the city’s Vailsburg section at approximately 8:30 p.m. and found Weir, who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Weir was transported to University Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to Deputy chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Squad.

]]>Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino today announced that 5-year-old Juliana Vega was struck and killed by a hit and run driver at approximately 8:38 p.m. yesterday near 30 Columbia Avenue as she was crossing the street. The little girl was transported to University Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 9:04 p.m.
This horrific tragedy is being actively investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
At this time, a car meeting the description of the vehicle that struck the little girl has been recovered in Newark. It has been impounded and is currently in the custody of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, where it is being processed by crime scene investigators. Several leads are being pursued.

]]>Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino has announced the Medical Examiner has ruled the deaths of the male and female found at the Hotel Rivera a double homicide.
At approximately 8:30 A.M. yesterday the Newark Police responded to the hotel after guests at the hotel were complaining of a foul odor on the 6th. Floor. A Maintenance employee accessed the room and found the lifeless bodies of Adrian Price, 55 and Towanna Freeman, 42. The victims, who are boyfriend and girlfriend, have been living at the hotel since December 15, 2009. Ms. Freeman was pregnant in her second trimester.
There have been no arrests in the investigation. The Essex County Prosecutor’s and Newark Police Department’s Homicide Squads are actively investigating these murders.
Under New Jersey law the fetus is unborn and not considered a homicide victim according to Thomas S. Fennelly, Deputy Chief Assistant Prosecutor.

Last night at approximately 10:20 pm Alsamad Davis, 34, of Irvington was fatally shot outside a residence located on Brookdale Avenue in the city of Newark. Moniefa Bullock, 31, of Newark was also shot in the leg. Both victims were taken to University Hospital. Davis was pronounced dead at 12:41 AM. Bullock was treated and is expected to survive.
Newark police responded to a call of a shooting. Apparently the victims were on the porch when someone drove up in a dark color SUV and opened fire on them, killing one and injuring the other.

]]>Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino today announced that Markis Langley, 37, of Rahway was shot multiple times last night at approximately 7 p.m. as he entered his vehicle in front of 563 South 17th Street in Newark. His injuries were fatal.
Witnesses said a maroon vehicle with tinted windows, possibly a Subaru, pulled up, a hand came out of the passenger side and shots were fired.
The victim was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Next of kin have been notified. No other details are available at this time.
