Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and Newark Police have made an arrest in connection with the death of Alexis Robinson, a 29-month-old baby girl.

The baby girl was transported from her home in the 500 block of Elizabeth Avenue to Beth Israel Hospital on Wednesday, where she later died. An autopsy performed on Thursday determined she had been the victim of a homicide. The cause of death is blunt force trauma.

Tyrail Jones, 25, formerly of East Orange, has been arrested and charged with murder. He was living with the mother in Newark. He is not the biological father of the child.

These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
