Murray announced today that an Essex County grand jury issued a no bill, declining to indict Patricia Krentcil, 44, of Nutley.

Krentcil was facing second degree child endangerment charges for allowing her then 5-year-old daughter to get in a tanning booth.

On April 17, 2012 school officials noticed burns on the little girl’s legs. They reported the injuries to authorities. Following an investigation, Krentcil was arrested on April 24, 2012. Under New Jersey law, children under 14 years old are banned for using tanning salons.

“We presented all the available evidence in the case to the grand jury, both the state’s evidence and the defense’s evidence. The grand jurors voted not to indict Mrs. Krentcil. We respect their decision,’’ said Assistant Prosecutor Gina Iosim, who presented the case to the grand jury.

Krentcil has been free on $25,000 bail throughout the process. She was required to post 10 percent. The daughter remained in the custody of the parents as the case proceeded through the grand jury.

The decision to no bill the case became official today. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office does not anticipate further action on this case at this time.
